The Ministry of Infrastructure and Development officially confirmed receipt of EU funding from the European Commission from the Cohesion Fund for the construction of a waste incinerator. Poznań will receive PLN 330 million for this purpose.
In less than a year since the submission of documentation for the project 'Waste Management System for the City of Poznań', the European Commission issued a positive decision on funding. The allocated funds will be used to finance the urban part of the investment – the Municipal Waste Thermal Treatment Plan.
The hybrid financial structure, which is unusual on a national scale, is based on a combination of funds from a private investor – Sita Zielona Energia Sp. z o.o. – and from the City of Poznań, which acquired funds from the EU grant. The waste incineration plant, which is being erected under Public-Private Partnership, will be commissioned at the end of 2016.
